I never thought of myself as a poncho person. Well, not since 1974. But here we are - everything old is new again. I've discovered the ponchos of the 21st century, and they're pretty cool! I think of the poncho as a style accessory, one that adds a layer of warmth while giving an outfit a little dimension. This works well for me since I'm usually cold in the office. Adding a coordinating poncho to your outfit makes layering fun! This is a simple poncho design. Classic and classy. I love how it can be worn several ways, with an asymmetrical drape or with the hem straight. It's lightweight but… View Post

I LOVE my faux fur vest! And I'm so happy that this fun, statement trend is going strong. A faux fur vest is the perfect way to incorporate the faux fur trend without feeling too . . . over the top. I've had mine for at least six years - purchased at a garage sale (from my sister-in-law). It's Gap and is reversible - twill on the other side. But I've really only worn it on the faux fur side. It's one of my favorite fun accessories. I'd love to add another to my closet, multi-color would be my choice. Fall and winter are the perfect seasons for a faux… View Post

The holiday season is here! Five plus weeks to play with festive and sparkly holiday style every day. My go-to approach to everyday dressing is a balance of style and comfort. And during the colder months, I HAVE to be warm. This doesn't change for me during the holiday season. But I do try to add a dash of twinkle and merry during this time of year. This combination of holiday dress and wanting to be comfortable used to really throw me in my younger years, especially when I was shopping for a holiday party outfit. I would see all the sexy, slinky, sparkly dresses and tops that were the… View Post

Black Friday. It means only one thing. The holiday shopping season has arrived - ready or not. I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my favorite e-tailers. The products offered might not be perfect for all the people on your gift list this season, but you might get some fun ideas for your wish list. Some of these e-tailers have Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday sales. Some of them offer sales only once a year, like TKEES, whose once-a-year sale I stumbled on while writing this post (yep - ordered two). All of the sites included in this post offer much more than the few… View Post

Thanksgiving is less than a week away. If you haven't already, it's time to figure out your Thanksgiving outfit. It's best to plan ahead so that you have covered all the bases for Thanksgiving outfit essentials. Really, this should be capitalized. Because it's actually a thing. Thanksgiving Outfit Essentials. You've probably incorporated Thanksgiving Outfit Essentials into your Thanksgiving outfit many times in previous years but didn't realize that you were following a few simple "Essentials" rules. There are three basic Thanksgiving Outfit Essentials rules: 1. Wear an Outfit That You Feel Good In The very first Thanksgiving Outfit Essential to consider is what you have that you feel good wearing.… View Post

As of this morning, we've had three days of rain since Halloween. The rainy season has arrived. And just in time, I've discovered a fabulous line of stylish waterproof boots. Yes, waterproof! While browsing the Nordstrom fall sale boot selection (I always go right to the shoes during a Nordstrom sale), I came across Blondo waterproof boots. I was intrigued. These looked like normal boots - leather and suede - not like my current waterproof boot that is made of plastic/rubber. As you may know, when Nordstrom has a big sale, you have to act fast before inventory is depleted, so I put the boots in my shopping bag right… View Post

Thanksgiving is 20 days away. I'm thinking about what to wear on that day, are you? A fall sweater keeps popping into my head for outfit possibilities. A fall sweater could be the perfect Thanksgiving piece. It's not too form fitting, so it can hide that unattractive Thanksgiving bloat, a must when planning what to wear for an event that is focused on consuming hundreds (okay, let's be honest) or thousands of calories. However, I have recently realized that my closet is devoid of fall sweaters. I'm not sure why. I think over the past several years I had decided that I didn't really like them on me. Or something.… View Post

It's the Fall Colors wrap-up (aka Fall Colors Part 3!). I had fun shopping my closet for pieces I have that are close to the 2017 Fall color trends. I decided to accessorize with the last three colors: Autumn Maple, Golden Lime, and Grenadine. (I always love the names and would love to have the job of creating color names!) In addition to featuring the new colors from the palette in this post, I'm including a photo from the colors featured in the two previous 2017 Fall color trends posts. Before we move to the color inspirations, let's take another look at the Pantone 2017 top ten Fall color trends.… View Post

It's been a three-week roller coaster. I'm supposed to be posting today, according to my plan, about the remaining top ten 2017 Pantone colors for fall. I bet you had a clue from the photo that this post isn't about fall colors (the fashion accessory pictured here has been prevalent in Sonoma County over the past week). No clothes, or makeup, or shoes, or jewelry this week. On my mind is what we all need to do to be prepared. (If you'd rather read something fashion-y and fun, check out this post Be Your Own Color Stylist, posted in August 2016. Use it to experiment with the new fall colors!)… View Post

Downloadable Dez & Dot Color Wheel Cheat Sheet (This post first published August 2016) I need a color stylist! I am not a naturally colorful dresser. A glance into my closet reveals  mostly sections of white, gray, and black (I group my  clothes by type and color, e.g., tank tops in one section grouped by color, long sleeved tops in another grouped by color, so it’s pretty easy to figure out what colors I gravitate to). I’ve been trying to branch out – challenge my comfort zone and add some colors that I would have never considered a few years ago. I find that when I wear the right colors,… View Post
